SPRING INTO CONCRETE MAINTENANCE

Looking over your spring cleaning and maintenance checklist? With all the wet weather we've been having, it's time to give your concrete some much needed TLC.

1. BASIC MAINTENANCE

A pressure washer is a quick and easy way to maintain your concrete. Be sure to immediately clean off oils, gasoline, chemicals, and debris so that they do not stain your concrete. Pressure washing and cleaning chemicals can remove most stains.

2. REMOVE WEEDS AND MOSS

Remove weeds as soon as possible to help protect your concrete from cracking as the weeds expand.

Remove Moss, which holds in moisture that deteriorates surfaces beneath, it can shorten the lifespan of concrete walkways, driveways and outdoor areas meant for long-term enjoyment.

3. REPAIR VS REPLACE

The early repair of concrete cracks is important to maintain the longevity of your concrete – it’s also cheaper than replacing neglected concrete.

4. NOT ALL CHEMICALS ARE SAFE TO USE

It’s imperative to understand which chemicals are harmful to your concrete flooring. Calcium chloride, magnesium chloride and all salts damage concrete. Magnesium chloride and ammonium nitrate are especially bad – do not use these!

5. SEAL & PROTECT

Sealing your concrete flooring will protect it from water and moisture, dust, abrasion, UV rays, some chemicals, and other environmental impacts which can cause damage. It’s important to understand the different types of sealers available for concrete and which works best for your needs.

6. RESEAL YOUR CONCRETE

Concrete sealers are temporary just like most things in life. Therefore, it is crucial to refresh and renew your seal your concrete every 2-3 years.
