REVITALISING FADED COLOURED CONCRETE DRIVEWAYS!

There are a number of factors which could contribute to fading concrete including: UV rays, surface abrasion, foot and vehicle traffic.

Here are are some steps to get your driveway looking fresh and renewed.

1. STYLE & DESIGN PLANNING

Look on Pinterest and Instagram for inspirational ideas.

2. ASSESS THE CONDITION OF YOUR DRIVEWAY

In addition to preserving your driveways lifespan... repairing minor cracks and other superficial damage will help you achieve a professional finish to your newly revamped concrete driveway!

IS RESURFACING REQUIRED? If your driveway surface is needing a complete overhaul...concrete resurfacing is a cost-effective way to help fix the overall appearance of your worn concrete.

3. REMOVE OLD SEALANT & STAINS

A pressure washer can be used to remove unwanted stains and old sealant which is a VERY IMPORTANT STEP to ensure your new stain/paint properly adheres to your concrete for a fabulous end result. For stubborn stains and sealant, ask your local stockist what they recommend for your specific requirements.

4. COLOUR & PRODUCT CONSIDERATIONS

a) Consider the colour theme of your home

b) Dark colours draw UV rays, light colours reflect and tend to make surfaces look larger

c) Purchase a sample pot and do a patch test before commiting to a specific colour

d) Will one or two coats be required and how does this impact the end colour?

e) After testing the colour... live with it for a few days.

f) Decide which you will be using: water based or solvent based stain and sealer

5. SUPPLIES CHECKLIST

Use this as a guide and consider your individual requirements when putting together your shopping list.

Cement mixture and application tools, tape measure, pencil, knee pads, brush/spraygun, stain, paint, sealant, paint pan, rags, cleaning solutions.

TIP: Measure your driveway to ensure you get the right amount of stain/pain/sealant ... also account for the number of coats required.

6. SITE PREPARATION

Cover nearby walls, plants, and other items with paper or plastic drop cloths to prevent overspray/splatter marks. Block off your driveway and put up a wet driveway sign. Check the weather forecastfor rain, and winds which can cause paticles to become embedded. Remember to allow enough dry time (after fixing cracks and cleaning) before you commence adding colour or sealants.
