PROTECTING YOUR CONCRETE FROM MOSS DAMAGE

Moss growth is a common problem for external concrete floors like driveways and pathways which can not only ruin the appearance of your concrete and result in a dangerously slippery pathway, mosses, once established, retain moisture, which deteriorates the surfaces beneath them.

TIPS TO TREAT AND PREVENT MOSS-GROWTH

REMOVE MOSS

There are several methods to remove moss. The easiest way is by using a high-pressure washer. If you have a large build-up of moss, you can use boiling water, baking powder or vinegar to help soften and break up the moss, then use a non-abrasive scraper to remove clumps.

LIMIT WATER

Although it is difficult to shield concrete flooring from the rain, given moss growth thrives in moist and damp areas of concrete flooring, where possible, limit the amount of stagnant water. Keep the concrete exposed to sunlight, which will aid in the concrete's drying and stop the growth of moss.

REDUCE SOIL RUN-OFF

1) Construct a barrier to confine soil run-off.

2) Review water drainage in the problem area.

3) Mulches are another fantastic option if soil runoff is a persistent problem. They prevent heavy rain from destroying the structure of the soil by acting like a shock absorber.

TREAT CONCRETE

You can stop moss from growing back by treating concrete with a moss control product.
